The Opportunity Consultants Ltd (company number 15537561), registered office 7 Gaius Croft, Milton Keynes, MK11 4BL, trading as “The Opportunity Co” (“we”, “us”, “our”), is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect through theopportunityco.uk (the “Site”), why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have over it.
We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any questions, contact us using the details in the ‘How to Contact Us’ section below.
1. Who We Are
The Opportunity Co is a sales and marketing consultancy working with hospitality venues and operators across the UK.
Trading name: The Opportunity Co
Registered company: The Opportunity Consultants Ltd
Company number: 15537561
Registered office: 7 Gaius Croft, Milton Keynes, MK11 4BL
Contact email: hello@theopportunityco.uk
Contact phone: 07739 982850
2. What Personal Data We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
2.1 Data you give us directly
Contact form / enquiries: name, email address, phone number, and the content of any message you send us via the Contact page or via email/phone.
Newsletter sign-up: email address (and name, if you provide one) when you subscribe.
Competition and promotion entries: the details you provide when entering, as set out in Section 4.
Any other information you choose to share with us, for example during a Discovery Day, proposal discussion, or ongoing client relationship.
2.2 Data collected automatically
Usage data via Google Analytics: pages visited, time on site, referring website, approximate location (derived from IP address), device and browser type. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this — see our Cookie Policy for details.
Standard server log data such as IP address, browser type and access times, collected automatically by our hosting and website infrastructure.
We do not knowingly collect any special category data (e.g. health, religion, ethnicity) through the Site, and we do not ask visitors to provide it.
3. How We Use Your Data and Our Legal Basis
We only use personal data where we have a valid legal basis to do so under UK GDPR:
To respond to enquiries and provide quotes or proposals — legitimate interests (responding to a request you’ve made) and, where a contract results, performance of that contract.
To send you our newsletter or marketing updates — consent, which you give when you sign up, and which you can withdraw at any time (see Section 7).
To understand how visitors use our Site and improve it — legitimate interests, or consent where required for non-essential analytics cookies.
To comply with legal or regulatory obligations, for example accounting and tax records — legal obligation.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Competitions and Promotions
When you enter a competition or promotion we run (for example, via a sign-up form, QR code, or website pop-up), we collect the information you provide (typically, but not exclusively, your name, business name, and contact details) to administer the competition, contact the winner, and comply with any legal or regulatory requirements. We keep this data only as long as needed to run the promotion and resolve any disputes, normally no more than 90 days after the winner is announced.
At the point of entry, you can also choose to opt in to hear from us about The Opportunity Co. updates, offers, and news. This is optional and separate from your competition entry. It works exactly like our newsletter sign-up, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. If you opt in, we handle that data as set out in Sections 7 and 8 rather than deleting it at the end of the promotion.
5. Cookies
Our Site uses cookies, including Google Analytics cookies, to understand site usage. Full details of what cookies we use, why, and how to control them are set out in our separate Cookie Policy, available at theopportunityco.uk/cookie-policy/.
6. Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
Service providers who process data on our behalf, such as our email/newsletter platform, our website host, and Google (for Google Analytics). These providers only process data in line with our instructions and applicable data protection law.
Professional advisers (e.g. accountants, legal advisers) where necessary, and law enforcement or regulators where we are legally required to.
Some of our service providers (including Google) may process data on servers located outside the UK and European Economic Area (EEA). Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the UK’s International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your data remains protected.
7. Marketing and Your Choices
If you sign up to our newsletter, or opt in to marketing when entering a competition or promotion, we will only use your email address to send you the updates you signed up for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email, or by emailing us at hello@theopportunityco.uk. We will never sell or pass on your email address to third parties for their own marketing.
8. How Long We Keep Your Data
Enquiry/contact form data: retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your enquiry and for a limited period afterwards in case you get back in touch, then deleted or anonymised.
Newsletter data: retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
Competition and promotion entry data: retained only as long as needed to run the promotion and resolve any disputes, normally no more than 90 days after the winner is announced. Where you have separately opted in to marketing, that data is kept until you unsubscribe.
Client data: retained for the duration of our working relationship and afterwards as required for accounting, tax and legal purposes (typically up to 7 years).
Analytics data: retained in line with Google Analytics’ default retention settings.
9. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
Ask us to delete your data (the ‘right to be forgotten’), where applicable.
Restrict or object to our processing of your data.
Receive your data in a portable format, where applicable.
Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent (e.g. newsletter marketing).
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@theopportunityco.uk. We will respond within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
10. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children’s Privacy
Our Site and services are directed at businesses and adults working in the hospitality industry. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The ‘last updated’ date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. We encourage you to review it periodically.
